Posted on: August 18, 2011

A necklace is an article of jewelry worn around the neck. Normally it is formed from a metal chain, but it can also be formed from string, leather, or other various materials.

Different Shapes and Sizes

There are different types of necklaces that people wear, for a myriad of reasons: the Bib Necklace, with multiple strands of stepped pearls; the Choker, which sits snuggly along the base of the neck; the Dog Collar, consisting of multiple strands that also sit close to the neck; the Graduated Necklace, which is a single strand of pearls with a larger pearl located in the middle; the Matinee Necklace, which hangs long into the chest area; the Opera Necklace, which sits just above the breastbone; the Princess Necklace which can vary in length between those of the Choker and Matinee; the Sautoir, also referred to as Rope Necklace; and the Uniform Necklace, consisting of pearls that appear to be the same size.
